About the Role
As a Senior Engineer in Instrumentation and Control (I&C) for Central Assets Management, you will design, analyze, implement, and maintain control systems that optimize various processes in the RPI areas. Working under the guidance of the Team Lead, your role will involve collaboration within the site's management team, applying your technical expertise to address quality issues related to control systems. You will oversee the maintenance of installed control system assets, contribute to new automation projects, and lead troubleshooting and repairs on control system equipment. Your responsibilities will include managing the availability of critical systems such as the Emergency Shutdown System (ESD), Distributed Control System (DCS), and PLC-based control loops while promoting process safety initiatives.

Responsibilities
- Manage the site's Emergency Shutdown System (ESD), DCS, and PLC-based control loops to ensure operation reliability.
- Develop solutions for maintenance and quality issues pertaining to control systems at the Suhar plants (SR2).
- Support new automation projects and work collaboratively with operations, engineering, maintenance, safety, environmental personnel, and third-party contractors.
- Provide technical advice, guidance, and support to team members while coaching young engineers on control system matters.
- Identify and assess improvement opportunities and support proposals from others.
- Ensure asset and equipment availability, reducing downtime to meet operational targets and supporting gross margin/profitability.
- Participate in safety initiatives and adhere to company values, policies, guidelines, and HSE standards while complying with applicable laws and best practices.
Scope
- Responsible for RPI & Plastic Assets, which includes SR/AP, MAF, Plastics & NGLE.
Key Interactions
- Internal: Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Safety, Environmental personnel, and third-party contractors.
- External: Engage with vendors, contractors, and manufacturers.
Notable Working Conditions
- Responsibilities will be performed in both field operations and an office environment, involving moderate to extensive computer screen use.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic or Instrumentation Engineering or a related field.
Language Requirements
- Excellent proficiency in written, spoken, and read English (required).
- Arabic (native) is desirable.
Background and Experience

Competencies and Skills:
- 8+ years of relevant experience in a similar control system role, particularly in refinery and petrochemical plant maintenance.
- Proven expertise in the Oil & Gas/Refinery/Petrochemical industry.
- In-depth knowledge of refinery processes and plant equipment.
- Experience in developing/reviewing maintenance work instructions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills along with the ability to apply sound judgment in technical matters.
- Proven experience in Personal Safety Management and a good understanding of HSE/SCE QA/QC standards.
- Proficient in using Yokogawa, Honeywell, or Schneider DCS and ESD systems.
- Experience with Siemens, Triconex, or Allen Bradley PLC systems.
- Knowledge of machine monitoring systems (e.g., Bently Nevada or Emerson CSI) and machine protection systems (e.g., Woodward, CCC).
- Familiar with IEC62443 and capable of performing bid evaluations and contracts management.
- Good knowledge of process automation protocols (HART, Profibus, SDS).

Technical Skills
- Proficient in computer programs, including MS Office and SAP system transactions and reports.
- Capable of maintaining and troubleshooting DCS and PLCs.
- Familiar with writing technical reports and documentation as well as developing/reviewing maintenance work instructions.
- Participate/lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and HAZOP studies.
- Develop/review Lifecycle Management Plans to address obsolescence and support issues.
- Comprehensive understanding of international standards related to control systems.
