Sr Engineer Mechanical

About the Role
The Senior Engineer Mechanical provides extensive maintenance expertise for Central Maintenance works across RPI designated sites and all related operations. This role serves as the maintenance focal point, focusing on maintenance and the execution of minor projects, in alignment with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategies, as well as policies and international standards. The position is situated within the Omani regulatory framework and adheres to the highest standards in HSE practices and best international practices.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Scope
RPI Assets (SR, AP, MAF, & Polymer)
Central Support to Assets across the company RPI:

• Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) support to plant maintenance teams for troubleshooting critical issues and maintaining vital assets.

Central Support within Asset Management:

• Develop Master data for Rotating Equipment and monitor the Asset Master Plan.
• Develop and review Maintenance Strategies for new and existing assets.
• Review policy and procedure documents concerning Quality Assurance and Quality Control.
• Identify gaps in existing maintenance practices and implement best practices, such as lubricant rationalization, storage, and refurbishment processes.
• Develop contracting strategies for Static & Rotating Equipment Maintenance.
• Support the Asset Maintenance Excellence Centre, including training based on identified needs.
• Assist the Central Contracts team with technical evaluation of Critical tenders.
• Drive the digitalization of Maintenance practices to enhance reliability and asset availability.

Central Support to Cross Functions across the company RPI:

• Review RCM studies for Critical Systems and PM task lists.
• Conduct root cause analysis, HAZOP, and manage Bad Actor issues.
• Lead inventory projects for improvement, focusing on availability and cost optimization.

Principal Accountabilities
HSE and Process Safety

• Provide expertise and advice on process safety and engage with stakeholders transparently.
• Support HSE policies for major accident hazard control.
• Participate in safety case assessments and inspections.
• Stimulate research to prevent major accident hazards and maintain awareness of developments in process safety.

Mechanical Maintenance Strategies

• Establish maintenance strategies encompassing preventive, predictive, and corrective measures for mechanical systems.
• Maximize the performance and reliability of mechanical assets through effective strategies.
• Collaborate with the Competency Assurance Program team to establish standardized maintenance procedures.

Maintenance Service Contract

• Collaborate with various teams to create maintenance service contracts for external service providers, ensuring industry standards compliance.

Maintenance, Performance Monitoring and Optimization

• Monitor performance of mechanical assets and analyze data for improvement opportunities.
• Identify equipment/system issues and collaborate with the maintenance team for targeted interventions.

Root Cause Analysis

• Participate in investigations of mechanical failures and recommend corrective measures.

Maintenance Excellence

• Oversee condition monitoring and ensure resultant actions are incorporated into SAP and CM notification systems.
• Collaborate with site maintenance engineers to drive closure of action items.

Maintenance Expertise

• Demonstrate expertise in mechanical equipment, providing specialized maintenance support and recommendations to bridge competency gaps.
• Collaborate on business improvement projects within the discipline.

Business Plan

• Support accurate maintenance input in the business plan and develop OPEX budget proposals for mechanical maintenance.

Technology Adoption

• Keep updated with the latest mechanical maintenance technologies and propose their integration into strategies.

Safety and Compliance

• Conduct audits ensuring adherence to maintenance strategies, safety regulations, and company policies.

Training and Development

• Provide in-house maintenance training and mentorship to enhance technical expertise aligned with competency requirements.
• Facilitate the sharing of learning and best practices across departments.

Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with various teams to ensure systems and processes required for asset integrity management are in place.

Key Interactions

• Internal: Maintenance – RPI AM, Operations, DA & TS.
• External: Contractors, Vendors & Suppliers.

Notable Working Conditions
Field Operations and Office Environment; moderate to intensive computer screen use.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Language Requirements

• Excellent proficiency in written, reading, and spoken English (required); native Arabic (desirable).

Background and Experience

• 6-8 years of experience in a relevant position as a Mechanical (Rotating) Engineer within the Oil & Gas / Refinery / Petrochemical industry.

• Familiarity with international codes and standards related to mechanical maintenance (e.g., API 610, 674, 675, etc.).

• Possess strong judgment and engineering materials specifications skills.

• Experience in design and troubleshooting of rotating equipment and knowledge in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and HSE practices.

Technical Competencies:

• Proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and SAP-PM.
• Expertise in process equipment lifecycle management, and mechanical equipment condition monitoring.
• Familiarity with project management, developing maintenance procedures, and ensuring data integrity.

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in diverse environments.
