We are hiring engineers for the Ubuntu Engineering organization who are passionate about software quality, performance, and resilience. Successful candidates will engage in tasks such as designing new software, packaging, integrating, testing, and shipping open source software from the Ubuntu repositories.
As part of our team, you'll work on various engineering categories, including development of foundational systems software and applications in languages such as Rust, Go, Flutter, and Python. You will also contribute to system integration, software packaging, automation, and the evolution of our Linux distribution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and ship software using Rust, Go, and Python.
- Package and integrate open source software into the Ubuntu repositories.
- Debug system-level problems and implement robust solutions.
- Author and enhance technical and community documentation.
- Collaborate with and mentor team members in a globally distributed setting.
Qualifications:
- Exceptional academic record with a degree in Computer Science or a STEM field (or equivalent experience).
- Significant experience in Rust, Go, Python, Flutter, or C/C++.
- Professional written and spoken English.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated passion for open source software.
- Ability to travel twice a year for company events.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience with Linux distributions, software packaging, and distribution mechanisms.
- Understanding of build systems and toolchains, including cross-compilation.
- Experience in performance or security engineering.
