The Database & Systems Specialist at Abu Dhabi Terminals is responsible for database administration, specifically within Microsoft SQL Server and the Navis Terminal Operating System (TOS). The role involves managing database activities in high-volume environments to ensure system reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Database Management:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Manage Navis TOS databases for optimal performance and reliability.
  • Monitor database performance and implement patches and updates as necessary.

• High Availability & Disaster Recovery:

  • Design and implement high availability solutions using Always On Availability Groups.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and backup strategies.

• Performance Tuning & Optimization:

  • Analyze and optimize database performance by tuning queries and indexes.
  • Conduct regular maintenance tasks, including integrity checks and updates.

• Scripting & Automation:

  • Create and maintain scripts for routine database administration tasks.
  • Develop stored procedures, triggers, and manage other database objects.

• Security & Compliance:

  • Implement and maintain security best practices for database management.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and company policies.

• Collaboration & Support:

  • Work closely with application developers to design and optimize database solutions.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to IT staff and end-users.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
• Relevant certification in Microsoft or databases is advantageous.
• At least 1+ years of experience with SQL and Microsoft SQL Server.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with VMware ESX and SAN systems.
• Knowledge of backup and restore tools and procedures.
