About the Job
As a Data Center Construction Manager, you will be a key member of a fast-paced, creative, and efficient site-based construction team responsible for building and supporting the operations of Amazon-owned data centers. This role entails overseeing complex problems related to MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) installations, commissioning, and redundancy in our data centers. You will ensure compliance with all construction contracts while managing various disciplines including civil, structural, architectural, electrical, mechanical, and controls.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Data Center Construction Manager will be responsible for:
- Management and oversight of construction-related activities related to new builds or capital projects.
- Direct interface with construction general contractors during bidding, award, execution, and project closeout/punch list phases.
- Working with general contractors and vendors to ensure efficient and high-quality project deliveries.
- Negotiating with general contractors and internal procurement partners and evaluating bids/proposals with attention to detail.
- Creating construction project scope and requests for proposals.
- Conducting capital requests/financial reviews of construction work including change orders, purchase orders, and invoicing.
- Managing construction project quality control, including the creation of a commissioning plan.
- Recording and reporting key construction metrics to team members and management.
- Performing troubleshooting and root-cause failure analysis for equipment or electrical failures.
- Traveling to other data center sites as required (30% international travel involved).
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years in construction site management.
- 2+ years of experience managing construction contracts and contractors in complex projects.
- 3+ years of experience in construction for operational/mission-critical facilities such as data centers or energy plants.
- Proficiency in a working environment conducted in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years in construction site management with experience leading construction contract packages.
- A Bachelor's degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification such as CCM (Certified Construction Manager), AC (Associate Constructor), or CPC (Certified Professional Constructor) is a plus.
- Knowledge of safety and quality standards, and experience within relevant regulations.
- Understanding of electrical engineering principles for major equipment installations, or mechanical engineering principles for cooling/ventilation systems.
- Experience managing civil engineering projects and interfacing with concrete pours and structure erection.
