About the Job
The Data Center Engineer will oversee the day-to-day management and maintenance of data center infrastructure through third-party vendors, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and security. This role is responsible for managing cloud computing infrastructure deployments, handling equipment upgrades, and implementing disaster recovery and contingency plans. The engineer will lead a team of data center technicians, enforce operational procedures maintained by the third-party data center operator, and collaborate with stakeholders to support business objectives and continuity.

Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Management: Oversee third-party vendors responsible for operations and maintenance of data center infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and power and cooling systems.
  • Resource Allocation: Provide guidance to third-party vendors on resource allocation and capacity planning to ensure optimal use of data center resources and scalability to meet changing business requirements, implementing best practices in alignment with organizational policy.
  • Server Deployment and Configuration: Guide third-party vendors on server deployments, hardware upgrades, and software installations, ensuring server configurations meet performance, security, and compliance standards.
  • Network Management: Assist third-party vendors in configuring and maintaining network equipment, monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing security measures to protect against unauthorized access and cyber threats.
  • Storage Administration: Oversee third-party vendor management of storage systems, provisioning resources, configuring arrays, and implementing data replication and backup solutions to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Security and Compliance: Enforce data center security policies and oversee third-party vendors in implementing access controls, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations for data security and privacy.
  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Guide third-party vendors in developing and implementing disaster recovery plans, backup and restore procedures, and failover mechanisms to ensure resilience and operational continuity.
  • Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor the team of data center technicians and third-party vendors, assign tasks, provide training, conduct performance evaluations, and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Documentation and Change Management: Ensure accurate documentation of data center configurations and operational processes, adhering to change management policies for implementing infrastructure changes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance service support processes, collaborating with vendors to implement improvements and staying updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of demonstrated experience in data center operations, with comprehensive management of end-to-end operations and vendor oversight in managing storage systems and implementing backup solutions.
