Associate Linux Support Engineer

About the Job:
Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are hiring an Associate Support Engineer to support the technical needs of customers leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. This role is an opportunity for a hands-on engineer with a passion for Linux and open source technologies to work with a talented team in a global, distributed environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide technical support for customers via telephone, email, and web from your remote home office.
• Manage and own support cases, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction per our Service Level Agreements (SLA).
• Contribute to knowledge base articles and maintain existing resources.
• Draft and distribute technical notices for communication purposes.
• Participate in a regular weekend working rotation.

What We Are Looking For:

• Exceptional academic track record and an undergraduate degree in a technical subject (Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, etc.) or a compelling alternative experience.
• Experience with Linux troubleshooting and basic hands-on experience with Linux server administration.
• Basic programming skills in any language (bash, Perl, Ruby, Javascript, C/C++, Go) and knowledge of networking and cloud computing concepts.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events (up to two weeks long).

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Experience supporting virtualized environments (KVM, Virtual Box, VMWare) and active contribution to open-source projects.

Work Conditions:

• This is a globally remote role with a distributed work environment.
• Regular travel for team sprints and company events is required.
