Position

About the Job: This is an opportunity to run a Professional Services team (also known as Field Engineering), helping customers understand and implement Canonical's open source solutions in public clouds and their own data centers. We work across the entire spectrum of cloud offerings, including Ubuntu itself, virtualization and private cloud, Kubernetes, and sophisticated open source solutions such as MLOps platforms and data platforms. As we rapidly expand our range of open source solutions to cater to sectors like telecommunications, finance, healthcare, and media, we aim to design and develop new solutions to meet diverse customer needs.

We believe that Engineering Managers should be outstanding engineers themselves who actively troubleshoot technical issues and engage in technical presales conversations. Although their individual contributions to project delivery are important, their ability to shape the team's direction, focus, and delivery is paramount. Our Engineering Managers facilitate the growth of management skills and train engineers interested in developing their soft skills.

As the Cloud Professional Services Manager, you would lead our Field Engineering team of cloud solutions architects at Canonical, working directly with customers to design private and public cloud solutions that suit their workload demands. This includes deploying on-premise cloud solutions such as OpenStack, MicroCloud, Ceph, and other solutions deployable in public clouds.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading and developing a team of engineers from graduate to senior level.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, partners, and customers to represent your team and product.
  • Actively participating in technical presales to assist with departmental goals and objectives.
  • Coaching and mentoring your team, offering career development insights.
  • Implementing disciplined engineering processes and measuring team health indicators.
  • Planning and managing progress on agreed goals and projects.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies, including Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph, etc.
  • Practical experience with Linux and networking.
  • Experience in technical presales is preferable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proven track record in developing and growing team talents.
  • Organized and able to deliver high-quality results on time.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% for internal company events, external tech events, and customer meetings.

Additional Skills:

  • Proficiency in a second language, preferably Spanish or French.
  • Python programming knowledge.
  • Experience working with external partners and providing stakeholder feedback for engineering roadmaps.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation and performance-driven annual bonuses.
  • Distributed work environment with opportunities for in-person team events.
  • Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year.
  • Annual compensation reviews, maternity and paternity leave, and employee assistance program.
  • Opportunities for travel to meet colleagues and attend events.

Join Canonical, a pioneering tech firm leading the global shift to open source, and work towards making open source easier, more reliable, and more secure for development and deployment.
