Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems globally, known for its platform, Ubuntu, widely utilized in enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are on the lookout for exceptional software engineers skilled in Go, Rust, or C/C++ to join our virtualisation and container technology team. This role is focused on developing next-generation open source VMM or container technologies, critical to modern software deployments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and specify new features while building consensus on approaches.
  • Engage with upstream communities related to your area of expertise.
  • Conduct security analysis and reviews to ensure robust defense mechanisms.
  • Create and monitor performance benchmarks to optimize products.
  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team.
  • Write and debug high-quality code for new features and fixing issues.
  • Review code and discuss ideas with fellow engineers.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record and an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a STEM field.
  • Previous work experience in open source virtualisation or container technologies and low-level system work.
  • Proficient in professional written and spoken English.
  • Experience with Linux (preferably Debian or Ubuntu).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Passionate with a personal drive to exceed expectations.
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events (up to two weeks).
