Position

As the most widely used Linux distribution, Ubuntu plays a crucial role in ensuring the security of the entire internet. The role of Security Engineering Manager has a direct impact on the safety and security of millions of users worldwide. You will be joining a team of security experts dedicated to protecting the open-source ecosystem and pushing for innovation. Your leadership will be vital in addressing emerging threats, developing robust security measures, and ensuring the ongoing integrity of Ubuntu.

The AppArmor team focuses on developing security features and capabilities for AppArmor, the security module that provides mandatory access control for all Ubuntu users. This role involves engaging directly with the community and customers while coordinating efforts across multiple engineering teams and projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a diverse team of engineers, from graduate to senior levels.
  • Coach, mentor, and offer career development feedback to team members.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators.
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Develop and promote excellent engineering and organizational practices.
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
  • Collaborate with other leaders as part of the security engineering leadership team.

What We Are Looking For:

  • An exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path.
  • Proven drive and a history of exceeding expectations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • A passion for developing and nurturing talent in others.
  • Highly organized, ensuring timely and high-quality results from your team.
  • Professionalism in interactions with colleagues, partners, and the community.
  • Proficient in C programming and familiar with Linux kernel development.
  • Experience with Linux Security Modules and passionate about software and application security.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
  • A commitment to continual learning and building trust with colleagues and partners.
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks.

  • Good understanding of containers and packaging formats.
