Position

Canonical is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the development of highly performant Go (Golang) services and secure Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions used across all company products, including Ubuntu One SSO, Juju, LXD, and MAAS. This role provides an opportunity to contribute significantly to the transformation of identity management at Canonical, making an impact on our users, clients, and community members.

As the engineering manager of the identity team, you will leverage your extensive software development experience and knowledge of Kubernetes. You will define the technical vision for products in collaboration with product management, manage the team backlog, review code, and mentor junior team members. Your responsibilities will encompass the entire software development process, including software design, writing high-quality code and tests, conducting code reviews, documenting processes, and troubleshooting issues.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate with industry-leading teams within Canonical, working with robust data stores and utilizing our Kubernetes-based Observability stack. Participation in broader open source communities through events like hackfests, webinars, and conferences will be part of your engagement.

Who You Are:

  • Proven experience in hiring and leading high-performance software engineering teams.
  • Expertise in Go and Python software development.
  • Ability to design and implement complex, distributed systems.
  • Experience working with container technology and Kubernetes.
  • Strong understanding of software/infrastructure security and performance.
  • Knowledge of identity and access management technologies and standards is desirable but not essential.
