Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. The company is known for its platform, Ubuntu, which is widely used in initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Canonical is a pioneer of global distributed collaboration, with over 1200 colleagues in more than 80 countries, working primarily in remote roles and engaging in face-to-face meetings two to four times yearly in various locations around the world.

We are expanding the MAAS (Metal as a Service) team and hiring an Engineering Manager. The mission of MAAS is to provide an optimal solution for building and running private bare-metal infrastructure by offering a cloud-style on-demand API for physical server provisioning, network configuration, and storage. As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a distributed team of engineers, focusing on talent development, managing expectations, advocating modern software development practices, participating in code and architectural reviews, and collaborating with various teams across Canonical. You are expected to possess a solid technical background and strong leadership skills to help your team grow, deliver outstanding work, and contribute positively to company culture.

Location: Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Remote)

Work Conditions:

  • Full-time
  • Work-from-anywhere position available in EMEA or the Americas
  • Travel required: 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external global events

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional academic track record and undergraduate degree in a technical subject
  • Proven leadership skills and commitment to skills development
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
  • Proficiency in professional written and spoken English
  • Strong programming skills in Python and Go; familiarity with TypeScript and modern web frameworks is a plus
  • Self-motivated, result-oriented, and effective in a multicultural environment
