Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, renowned for our platform, Ubuntu. Our initiatives include public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. As we expand the MAAS ("Metal as a Service") team, we aim to create the best solution for building and managing private bare-metal infrastructure, offering a cloud-style on-demand API for physical server provisioning, network configuration, and storage.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager with experience in high-quality software development and team leadership, particularly with a focus on Linux on physical servers, Linux storage, and data center networking.

Work Conditions: Full-time, work-from-anywhere position available in EMEA or the Americas

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a distributed team of engineers, focusing on talent development through coaching and mentorship.
  • Set and manage expectations with stakeholders and other engineering teams.
  • Advocate for and advance modern software development practices.
  • Participate in code and architectural reviews.
  • Engage with broader teams at Canonical and the open-source community.
  • Travel for internal and external global events (4 to 6 weeks per year).

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record in a technical field.
  • Confidence in sharing ideas and providing feedback.
  • Proven leadership skills and a commitment to team development.
  • Passion for technology demonstrated through personal projects.
  • Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred) and programming in Python and Go.
  • Ability to travel internationally for company events.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Familiarity with Typescript and modern web frameworks such as React, Angular, Svelte, or Vue.

Language Requirements:

  • Professional written and spoken English is required.
