Canonical's mission involves setting the highest possible standard for software security within the Ubuntu ecosystem, as it increasingly supports customers in meeting strict security requirements such as FIPS, CIS, STIG, and FedRAMP.
This position focuses on leading the charge to establish security standards for open source software across Ubuntu, from desktops to cloud infrastructure. Responsibilities include certifying core components to meet industry standards and guiding development teams on security best practices in collaboration with industry partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a diverse team of engineers, from graduates to senior professionals.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback.
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes and measure team health indicators.
  • Advocate for excellent engineering and organizational practices.
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
  • Support products and customers in meeting strict security requirements.
  • Collaborate with industry partners on cryptographic modules and system hardening.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling alternative path.
  • A proven track record of excellence and going beyond expectations.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Passion for developing and growing team members with a history of success.
  • Ability to ensure timely and high-quality team delivery.
  • Prior experience with FIPS/Common Criteria certified products and related standards.
  • Knowledge of DISA-STIG or CIS benchmarks, including audit and remediation tooling.
  • Experience in an agile development environment and a commitment to continual learning.
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events, up to two weeks each.

Optional Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with Linux cryptography libraries (OpenSSL, GnuTLS).
