In this role, you will manage a team responsible for delivering the Ubuntu Server Distribution globally. The mission of Ubuntu is to provide the latest, best, free software components in a user-friendly and reliable format. Location: Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia (Remote)
Work Conditions: Full-time, Remote with global travel for up to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers.
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
- Collaborate with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu and your team.
- Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
- Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices.
- Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
- Collaborate with leadership on engineering processes, including code and architectural review.
- Engage with Canonical teams, the open source community, and commercial partners.
- Oversee the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family.
- Plan and deliver Ubuntu Server features.
Who You Are:
- A passionate developer and mentor with a successful track record in team development.
- Knowledgeable about software development with at least 3+ years of experience in managing and mentoring software developers; experience with distributed teams is a plus.
- Focused on delivering timely, high-quality software, with experience in an agile development environment.
- Holds a Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
- Possesses strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English.
- Experienced with a modern GNU/Linux distribution (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
- Practical experience with at least one of the following: Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services.
