Position

In this role, you will manage a team responsible for delivering the Ubuntu Server Distribution globally. The mission of Ubuntu is to provide the latest, best, free software components in a user-friendly and reliable format. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the future of Ubuntu and knowledgeable about the dynamics of the open source ecosystem, while being attuned to the needs of large, innovative customers.

Location: Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia (Remote)
Work Conditions: Full-time, Remote with global travel for up to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers.
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu and your team.
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices.
  • Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
  • Collaborate with leadership on engineering processes, including code and architectural review.
  • Engage with Canonical teams, the open source community, and commercial partners.
  • Oversee the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family.
  • Plan and deliver Ubuntu Server features.

Who You Are:

  • A passionate developer and mentor with a successful track record in team development.
  • Knowledgeable about software development with at least 3+ years of experience in managing and mentoring software developers; experience with distributed teams is a plus.
  • Focused on delivering timely, high-quality software, with experience in an agile development environment.
  • Holds a Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Possesses strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English.
  • Experienced with a modern GNU/Linux distribution (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Practical experience with at least one of the following: Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services.
