Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems, with its platform, Ubuntu, being widely used in various enterprise initiatives, including public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are seeking a Web Engineering Manager who will work collaboratively with diverse teams throughout the organization to deliver reliable, scalable, and delightful user experiences for users of Canonical products.

In this role, your main responsibility will be to support the growth and development of your team as web engineers, ensure valuable work output, and foster a positive work environment. Technical leadership and a solid background in web development are essential, as you will be responsible for challenging and guiding your team members. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to shape the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and contribute to strategic execution.

Location: Riyadh, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (Remote)
Work Conditions:

  • Full-time
  • Remote position, primarily for candidates in the EMEA region
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events (up to two weeks each)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate sound engineering principles by contributing directly to your team's goals
  • Estimate work, set goals, and meet them
  • Design and implement well-tested and documented software in web technologies or Flutter
  • Debug and resolve user issues
  • Participate in architectural reviews and code processes
  • Collaborate on technical specifications with community and colleagues
  • Contribute to high-quality technical documentation
  • Seek improvements to engineering and operations practices
  • Deploy and operate services developed by your team
  • Advocate for product success through technical proficiency

Requirements:

  • Knowledgeable and passionate about web and software development
  • Strong communication skills in written and spoken English
  • Exceptional academic record and/or relevant experience
  • Experience designing and writing high-quality web technologies
  • Familiarity with Typescript, React, or Flutter
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deliver results

Nice-to-have Skills:

  • Experience with container technologies such as LXD, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Background in REST API design and development
  • Knowledge of performance engineering and security

Language Requirements:

  • Professional written and spoken English is essential.
