Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We pride ourselves on global distributed collaboration with colleagues in 75+ countries and very few office-based roles.

We are hiring Graduate Software Engineers for 2024 and 2025 into engineering teams around the world. As a global platform company, we offer a wide range of software engineering challenges in both open source products and commercial business systems. Our teams work in various programming languages, including Python, Golang, Rust, C/C++, JavaScript, and Bash.

Engineers at Canonical work on diverse projects, ranging from low-level Linux system components to complex cloud infrastructure and applications. This full-time role will involve:

  • Shaping the roadmap for products during global sprints every six months
  • Focusing on design and user experience
  • Writing high-quality, resilient, and performant code
  • Engaging with users and the open source community
  • Understanding enterprise requirements and security in software design.

Work Conditions:

  • Remote work environment
  • Team alignment in EMEA, APAC, or AMER time zones
  • Full-time work, five days a week with limited weekend and night work
  • International travel for team events, up to twice a year

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record in STEM discipline (Computer Science, Business Informatics, Mathematics, etc.)
  • Confidence in delivering high-quality code in languages such as Python, Rust, C/C++, Golang, JavaScript, or Java
  • Familiarity with Ubuntu or another Linux distribution
  • Professional written and spoken English
  • Ability to travel internationally for company events

Nice-to-have Skills:

  • Experience in upstream open source contributions
  • Leadership and organization skills
