About the Job:
The Partner Engineering team at Canonical works with leading silicon companies to optimize Ubuntu for new hardware. This role involves collaborating with partner engineers to integrate innovative features and enhancements. As a Linux Server Software Engineering Manager, you will lead an engineering team across the full Linux server stack, from kernel to AI workloads, ensuring timely delivery on project milestones.

This position demands a resourceful and articulate leader who can deliver a variety of solutions across server and data center technologies. Your responsibilities will include managing relationships with key technology partners, technical leadership, conducting code reviews, and ensuring adherence to healthy engineering practices, documentation, quality, and performance optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a distributed team of engineers in designing and implementing Ubuntu integration for server-class hardware.
  • Engage with commercial partners to optimize the Ubuntu experience on their platforms.
  • Mentor and develop team members through coaching and feedback.
  • Oversee commercial engagements and ensure project milestones are met.
  • Collaborate with other teams to align on product architecture and roadmaps.
  • Work from home with global travel up to twice a year for up to two weeks.

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record in technical roles with Linux, preferably Ubuntu or Debian.
  • High-quality software engineering experience with in-depth knowledge of C/C++ and Python.
  • Familiarity with Ubuntu kernel and userspace, deb/snap packaging, embedded Linux, QEMU/KVM, and/or OVS/OVN.
  • Experience managing software engineers with a focus on planning, delivery, and quality.
  • Strong collaborative skills across multiple internal teams.
