This encompasses comprehensive solutions for metrics, logging, telemetry, alerting, tracing, and profiling, making observability integral to software practices.

In this role, you will manage a distributed team of engineers, oversee team processes, engage in one-on-one meetings, assess team health, review code, and represent Canonical at conferences.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage a distributed team of engineers and its observability portfolio.

  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with team members.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators.

  • Review code produced by engineers.
  • Attend conferences to represent Canonical.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic record from high school and university.
  • Proven experience in software delivery, ideally with open-source contributions.
  • Fluent in professional written and spoken English.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience as an engineering manager with a track record in building high-performance teams.
  • Professional development experience in Python or Go.
  • Understanding of observability and monitoring importance.

What We Offer Colleagues:

  • Competitive compensation based on geographic location, experience, and performance.
  • Performance-driven annual bonuses or commissions.
  • Distributed work environment with in-person team sprints.
  • Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year.
  • Annual compensation review and recognition rewards.
  • Paid leave for maternity and paternity.
  • Employee Assistance Program & Wellness Platform.
