We are hiring an Observability Engineering Manager to lead the development of our distributed tracing or service mesh products within our Observability group. This role is ideal for a software engineer passionate about open source software, Linux, Kubernetes, and observability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a distributed team of engineers and oversee the observability portfolio.
  • Organize and lead the team's processes to achieve its objectives.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with team members and identify team health indicators.
  • Interact with a vibrant community and represent Canonical at conferences.
  • Review code produced by other engineers and contribute to architectural leadership.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic background from both high school and university.
  • Proven track record in software delivery and professional software development, preferably with a focus on open source.
  • Professional written and spoken English skills.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience as an engineering manager with a track record of building high-performance teams.
  • Professional Python and some knowledge of Go.
  • Open source contribution experience and an understanding of observability and monitoring.
