We are hiring an Observability Engineering Manager to lead the development of our distributed tracing or service mesh products within our Observability group. This role is ideal for a software engineer passionate about open source software, Linux, Kubernetes, and observability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a distributed team of engineers and oversee the observability portfolio.
- Organize and lead the team's processes to achieve its objectives.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings with team members and identify team health indicators.
- Interact with a vibrant community and represent Canonical at conferences.
- Review code produced by other engineers and contribute to architectural leadership.
Requirements:
- Exceptional academic background from both high school and university.
- Proven track record in software delivery and professional software development, preferably with a focus on open source.
- Professional written and spoken English skills.
- Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
- Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience as an engineering manager with a track record of building high-performance teams.
- Professional Python and some knowledge of Go.
- Open source contribution experience and an understanding of observability and monitoring.
