As an Engineering Manager at Canonical, your primary responsibility is to run an effective team and support the development of your colleagues. You will oversee a distributed team of engineers and manage our observability portfolio. This involves organizing and leading the team's processes, conducting one-on-one meetings, identifying team health indicators, and reviewing code. You will also represent Canonical at conferences and collaborate closely with other engineering managers, product managers, and architects to create a strategic engineering roadmap.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a distributed team of engineers and oversee the observability portfolio.
- Organize and lead team processes to achieve objectives.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings with team members.
- Identify and measure team health indicators.
- Review code produced by other engineers.
- Attend conferences to represent Canonical.
Qualifications:
- Exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
- Proven professional experience in software delivery.
- Experience in professional software development, preferably in open source.
- Strong written and spoken English skills.
- Familiarity with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
- Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
- Proven understanding of observability and monitoring principles.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience as an engineering manager with a track record of building high-performance teams.
- Professional Python development experience and a working knowledge of Go.
- Contributions to open source projects.
- Experience with container technologies and designing observability solutions.
