Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, plays a critical role in transformative enterprise initiatives like public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We collaborate globally with a team of 1200+ colleagues across 75+ countries, where in-person meetings occur two to four times a year in various locations worldwide.

We are hiring a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to enhance next-gen operations at scale, implementing pure Python infrastructure-as-code, from bare metal to containers and applications. The role focuses on achieving excellence in enterprise infrastructure DevOps, managing a range of private cloud, Kubernetes, and application clusters for our clients, and maintaining a strong emphasis on automation as a fundamental software engineering challenge.

Work Conditions: Full-time, Globally remote role with expected international travel twice a year (for company events lasting up to two weeks).

Responsibilities Include:

  • Utilize Python software engineering skills in the operations domain.
  • Practice DevSecOps from bare metal to application.
  • Architect and manage OpenStack, Kubernetes, and software-defined storage environments.
  • Enable DevSecOps for applications running on the infrastructures.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Strong experience with Linux and familiarity with Linux networking and storage.
  • Python software development expertise.
  • Operational experience in a high-pressure environment with mission-critical services.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills combined with curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with OpenStack or Kubernetes deployment or operations.
  • Familiarity with public or private cloud management.
