Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are hiring a Senior Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer to join our Information Systems (IS) team. This role is a unique opportunity for an "automation-first" senior technologist with a passion for Linux.

The IS team at Canonical supports and maintains all of Canonical's IT production services, running services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users. As a Senior Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer, you will drive operations automation, utilizing the best open source infrastructure as code software and software development practices such as CI/CD pipelines.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Driving the development of automation and GitOps within your team.
  • Collaborating closely with the IS architect to align solutions with the IS architecture vision.
  • Designing and architecting services offered by IS.
  • Applying experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to enhance automation and IoC processes.
  • Automating software operations for consistency across private and public clouds.
  • Maintaining operational responsibility for all of Canonical's core services and infrastructure.

Requirements:

  • A modern view on hosting architecture with experience in infrastructure as code across private and public clouds.
  • Python software development experience with large projects.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes or other container orchestration systems.
  • Exposure to managing and deploying cloud infrastructure with code.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
  • Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers.
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
  • Bachelor's degree or greater in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English.
