Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems aimed at the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We work with top public cloud and silicon providers and industry leaders globally. Our team is distributed across 75+ countries, with few office-based roles, and we meet in person two to four times a year to align on strategy and execution.

We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to enhance our operations at scale using pure Python infrastructure as code. The ideal candidate is someone who believes in automation as a software engineering problem and is interested in the scientific approach to operations driven by metrics and code. You will be expected to learn the entire stack, from bare metal networking and kernel up to serverless and open source applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Bring Python software-engineering skills to the operations domain, practicing devsecops from bare metal to application.
  • Architect and run OpenStack, Kubernetes, and software-defined storage, enabling devsecops for related applications.
  • Work in a high-pressure environment, managing mission-critical services for globally recognized customers.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Experience with Linux and familiarity with Linux networking and storage.
  • Expertise in Python software development.
  • Operational experience in a similar environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, along with curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with OpenStack or Kubernetes deployment or operations.
  • Familiarity with public or private cloud management.
