About the Job:
This role offers an opportunity for a hands-on technologist with a passion for Linux to build a career with Canonical and drive success with those leveraging Ubuntu and open-source products. The IS team at Canonical supports and maintains all IT production services and runs services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users.

As a Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer, you will drive operations automation across private and public clouds by utilizing open-source infrastructure as code software and software development practices such as CI/CD pipelines. You will also improve Canonical products and open-source technologies by providing critical feedback to developers, submitting bugs, and collaborating with various teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to develop best practices and increase automation.
  • Automate software operations for consistency across private and public clouds.
  • Enhance the resilience and scalability of Canonical's cloud and container portfolio.
  • Maintain operational responsibility for Canonical's core services, networks, and infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot, plan capacity, and investigate performance issues.
  • Collaborate with development teams to design service architectures and operational procedures.
  • Share best practices with team members and provide mentorship.

Requirements:

  • Deep experience defining operations in code using version control, peer review, and CI/CD.
  • Strong modern engineering background in peer-review, unit testing, SCM, CI/CD, and Agile.
  • Proficient in Python software development for large projects.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
  • Experience with enterprise Linux server administration.
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related engineering field.
  • Proficient communication skills in English (written and spoken).
  • Motivated with troubleshooting skills from kernel to web; willing to learn from others.
  • Flexible and quick to adapt in fast-changing environments.
  • Passionate about open-source technology, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
