We are seeking a Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer to join our Information Systems (IS) team. This role is ideal for a technology enthusiast with a strong background in automation, particularly focusing on Linux environments. As a key player in our IS team, you will support and maintain IT production services, directly impacting over 60 million Ubuntu users.

In this position, you'll lead operations automation, leveraging infrastructure as code (IaC), CI/CD practices, and Canonical’s leading software products. You'll work with a global team of Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) to ensure service reliability for Canonical and its customers, while also contributing to the improvement of our products through critical feedback and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop IaC practices within IS by enhancing automation and improving processes.
  • Automate software operations to ensure reusability and consistency across cloud environments.
  • Enhance the resilience and scalability of Canonical's cloud and container services.
  • Maintain operational oversight of Canonical's core services and infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain observability tools, ensuring effective monitoring and alerting.
  • Collaborate on architectural design and operational procedures with development teams.
  • Share expertise and best practices with colleagues through mentorship and collaborative work.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in operations defined as code, including version control, peer review, and CI/CD.
  • Strong engineering background with knowledge in Agile methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Python software development with experience in large projects.
  • Practical understanding of Linux networking, routing, firewalls, and enterprise Linux server administration.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing concepts and technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related engineering field.
  • Proficient in English with excellent communication skills for remote collaboration.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Passion for open-source software, particularly Ubuntu or Debian.
