Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems for the global enterprise and technology markets, with its widely-used platform, Ubuntu, supporting advancements in public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are seeking a software architect for our Canonical LXD and MicroCloud projects. The aim is to simplify the creation and management of compute clusters using system containers or virtual machines. This position involves working on distributed systems, virtualisation, container technology, networking, and storage.

As a software architect, you will lead the architecture, design, and evolution of LXD and Canonical MicroCloud, which integrates LXD with Ceph and OVN for a resilient cloud infrastructure. You will engage in various tasks, including developing in Golang and C, mentoring teammates, and driving technical leadership within our communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the LXD and MicroCloud architecture.
  • Mentor and develop colleagues successfully.
  • Develop and review code in Golang and C.
  • Ensure high security and performance of products.
  • Display technical leadership within Canonical and relevant communities.

Work Conditions:

  • Full-time, remote position available in EMEA and the Americas.
  • Global travel required twice annually for company events.

Language Requirements:

  • Professional written and spoken English.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Exceptional academic track record (Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM).
  • Experience in Golang and C.
  • Knowledge of modern cloud infrastructure offerings and their technologies.
  • Strong leadership qualities with a track record in motivating teams.
  • Experience with storage, networking, virtualisation, and concurrent distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with container technologies.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a strong focus on performance.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a self-starting attitude.
