Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, notably known for its platform, Ubuntu. In this role, you will contribute to Canonical LXD and MicroCloud, making clusters of compute with system containers or virtual machines easy to operate. The focus will be on delivering a simple, reliable experience for users, enabling them to concentrate on their tasks without worrying about the underlying OS or infrastructure.

As a Software Architect, you will lead the architecture, design, and evolution of LXD and Canonical MicroCloud, which integrates LXD with Ceph and OVN for resilient cloud infrastructure. You will work across the software stack, from low-level kernel components to high-level management REST APIs and CLIs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership of the LXD and MicroCloud architecture
  • Mentorship and development of colleagues
  • Development in Golang and C
  • Code reviews for other engineers
  • Ensuring product security and performance
  • Technical leadership in Canonical and associated communities

Work Conditions:

  • Fully remote position available in EMEA and the Americas
  • Global travel required twice annually for company events
  • Distributed work environment with a team-based approach

Language Requirements:

  • Professional written and spoken English

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record (Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM)
  • Proven expertise in Golang and C
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, storage, networking, virtualization, and container technologies
  • Experience with concurrent and distributed systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, and flexibility
