About the Job

Canonical is developing a comprehensive automation suite to provide multi-cloud and on-premise data solutions for enterprises. The data platform team, known for its collaborative environment, is responsible for the automation of data platform operations, focusing on fault-tolerant mission-critical distributed systems. Engineers at Canonical are proactive, thrive in open-source community dynamics, and are attentive to the needs of large, innovative organizations.

This role encompasses the creation and automation of features of data platforms rather than data analysis. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with a distributed team to ensure robust platform operations
  • Writing high-quality, idiomatic Python code to create new features
  • Debugging issues and engaging with upstream communities
  • Contributing to discussions and collaborating on solutions

What We Are Looking For

  • Proven hands-on experience in software development using Python
  • Proven hands-on experience in distributed systems
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events

Additional Skills That You Might Also Bring

Experience in the following areas will be beneficial and will influence the role and level considered:

  • Operating and managing data platform technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, OpenSearch, Kafka, etc.)
  • Linux systems administration and operations
  • Public or private cloud solutions (e.g., OpenStack)
  • Kubernetes cluster management
