Position

We operate with very few office-based roles and meet in person a few times a year in interesting locations worldwide.

We are seeking a Software Engineer - L3 Support to work in a dynamic engineering role focused on Linux-based infrastructure and applications. This position covers all layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN, Core networking), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and the open-source applications running on top of them. The role requires a technologist passionate about Linux and open-source to help drive success for our customers and community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes and other open-source software.
  • Maintain close working relationships with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities and develop bug fixes.
  • Review code produced by other engineers.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely while participating in team discussions to improve processes and tools.
  • Travel internationally up to 10% of work time for team meetings, events, and conferences.

What We Are Looking For:

  • An exceptional academic track record, ideally with a background in Computer Science, STEM, or similar.
  • Experience with Linux and open-source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • A drive to learn new technologies and tackle complex issues.
  • Willingness to travel up to four times a year for internal events.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • A passion for technology and collaboration.
  • Curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Interest in learning about Ubuntu Linux (kernel or userspace), Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, distributed systems, and more.

Language Requirements:

  • Proficiency in English (other languages may be a plus).
