We are seeking a Software Engineer - L3 Support to engage in a dynamic engineering role involving Linux-based infrastructure and applications. This position covers multiple layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and the open source applications that run on them. This role presents an opportunity for a technologist passionate about Linux and open source to build a successful career at Canonical. You will troubleshoot and resolve complex customer issues related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software. Responsibilities include maintaining relationships with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams, participating in upstream communities, developing bug fixes, reviewing code from other engineers, and engaging in team discussions to enhance processes and documentation.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a remote role with teams operating across various time zones.
  • Expected travel: Up to 10% of work time for team meetings, events, and conferences (approximately 4 times a year).

Language Requirements:

  • An affinity for communicating effectively in a technical environment, English proficiency is implied.

What We Are Looking For:

  • An exceptional academic track record.
  • Background in Computer Science, STEM, or similar fields.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • A drive to learn unfamiliar technologies and tackle challenging problems.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Interest in technologies such as Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, QEMU/KVM, or distributed systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated, adaptable, and curious.
