Position

Canonical is seeking a Software Engineer - L3 Support to join our dynamic and innovative engineering team. This role focuses on Linux-based infrastructure and applications, covering various layers of the stack such as bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN and Core networking), and orchestration with OpenStack and Kubernetes. As a vital part of our team, you will address critical issues in the open source stack that require upstream bug fixes and contribute to maintaining Canonical's reputation for excellence. Your responsibilities will include troubleshooting complex customer problems, collaborating with field and product engineering teams, participating in upstream communities, and developing bug fixes and patches.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer issues related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.
  • Review code produced by other engineers and participate in team discussions to enhance processes and documentation.
  • Communicate technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Be willing to travel internationally up to 10% of your work time for team meetings and conferences.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Exceptional academic track record in Computer Science, STEM, or related fields.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software, and proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Go, C, or C++.
  • A passion for learning new technologies and resolving complex issues.
  • Willingness to attend up to 4 internal events per year.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a remote role, collaborating with teams across different time zones.
  • The position requires traveling for meetings and events.

Language Requirements:

  • Strong communication skills in English are essential.
