Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems for the global enterprise and technology markets. We're hiring a Software Engineer to develop, test, and release improvements to the Ubuntu Pro client, which is essential for both enterprise customers deploying systems at scale and individual users who need security patching for their personal Ubuntu LTS.

The Ubuntu Pro Client is a command-line tool that manages a suite of specialist services provided by Canonical. Your role will include working closely with the Ubuntu Server team, major cloud partners, and multiple Canonical product teams, ensuring that user needs are met and that the quality and stability of the client are upheld.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team.
  • Write high-quality code accompanied by unit and functional tests to create new features.
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality code to resolve them.
  • Review code produced by other engineers.
  • Discuss ideas and investigate to find effective solutions.
  • Work from home, with global travel required for 2 to 4 weeks per year for internal and external events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar degree.
  • Extensive experience with Python on Linux systems.
  • Familiarity with Ubuntu Linux systems administration, continuous integration, end-system contract management, Debian packaging, and public or on-premise clouds is desirable.
  • Passion for the Ubuntu project and its community values.
  • Engagement with the open-source community is a plus.

Work Conditions:

  • Remote work environment.
  • Occasional travel to meet colleagues for team sprints, held twice yearly.
  • Annual compensation reviews, performance-driven bonuses, and a personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year.
