Position

Canonical is on a mission to build next-generation private cloud infrastructure, integrating KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies to create a dependable data center scale cloud suitable for edge and core enterprise deployments. We are seeking an Engineering Manager experienced in high-quality microservice architectures and effective team leadership, with profound knowledge of the Linux kernel, virtualization, storage, and networking.

In this role, you will lead a team of remote engineers, helping them grow their skills and ensuring they perform outstanding work while achieving personal and professional satisfaction. You are expected to provide technical leadership, facilitate delivery, influence team culture positively, and contribute to strategic execution.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in leading collaborative engineering teams, tackling distributed systems challenges, and possess extensive knowledge of Linux.

What You Will Focus On:

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers remotely
  • Mentor and coach team members to enhance their career development
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Promote modern software development practices
  • Engage in the engineering process through code and architectural reviews
  • Collaborate with Canonical teams, the open source community, and partners
  • Work from home with travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events

What We Are Looking For:

  • In-depth understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes
  • A passion for developing people and a strong track record in mentorship
  • Focus on achieving success with timely and high-quality software delivery
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
  • Experience in programming in C and/or Go

Work Conditions:

  • Remote work position available in EMEA and the Americas
  • Global travel required for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events
