Position

Canonical is on a mission to develop a next-generation private cloud infrastructure, utilizing KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies to create a seamlessly functioning data center scale cloud for both edge and core enterprise deployments. We are seeking an Engineering Manager experienced in high-quality microservice architectures and high-performance team leadership, with a strong foundation in Linux kernel, virtualization, storage, and networking.

As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading an effective team and fostering the growth of the colleagues you manage. You will help them succeed in their engineering roles, find satisfaction in their work, and maintain productive relationships with colleagues and the wider community. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Leading a remote team of engineers
  • Developing talent through coaching, mentoring, and feedback
  • Setting and managing expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Advocating for and advancing modern software development practices
  • Engaging in the engineering process through code and architectural review
  • Collaborating with internal teams and the open-source community

Work Conditions:

  • This is a remote position available in EMEA and the Americas.
  • Expected global travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes.
  • Proven experience in developing and growing people.
  • Focused on the timely delivery of high-quality software.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Experience programming in C and/or Go.
