Position

Their platform, Ubuntu, is widely utilized in significant initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT, serving major public cloud and silicon providers as well as industry leaders across various sectors.

As the Software Engineering Manager for Ubuntu Gaming, your primary mission is to enhance gaming on Ubuntu, ensuring it is a first-class experience. This includes maximizing performance, implementing robust and secure anti-cheat mechanisms, providing full device support, and simplifying content creation, sharing, and discovery. You will be involved in collaboration with open-source projects and other partners to benefit not only Ubuntu but the wider Linux gaming community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead your team in optimizing and expanding the Ubuntu gaming experience, focusing on the Steam Snap.
  • Manage project timelines while balancing feature improvements with deadlines.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align your team's objectives with company goals.
  • Conduct detailed code reviews emphasizing quality, performance, and modern design principles.
  • Work closely with upstream projects like Proton and partners like Unity to enhance gaming capabilities on Ubuntu.
  • Drive performance improvements across a variety of hardware platforms.
  • Engage with the open-source and gaming communities to gather feedback and collaborate on enhancements.

Requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree in a technical field or a compelling alternative path.
  • Proven ability to effectively collaborate with upstream projects and partners.
  • Experience with the Linux graphics stack, from user-space components to low-level kernel drivers.
  • Exceptional software project management skills, including risk assessment and resource allocation.
  • Ability to balance technical leadership with team management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal and external interactions.
  • Strong planning skills, demonstrated through the management of multi-cycle improvements.
  • Ability to communicate in English (language requirements may vary based on the team's demographics).
