Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. As a Software Support Engineer, you will take on a dynamic and exciting engineering role focused on Linux-based infrastructure and applications. This role involves working across all layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN, Core networking), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and associated open source applications.

You will be challenged to display your engineering skills while addressing complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software. The position involves maintaining a close working relationship with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams, participating in upstream communities, developing bug fixes, and reviewing code produced by other engineers. The role requires effective time management, technical communication, and participation in discussions to improve processes and documentation.

What We Are Looking For:

  • An exceptional academic track record.
  • Background in Computer Science, STEM, or similar fields.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • A drive to learn unfamiliar technology and deep-dive into difficult issues.
  • Willingness to travel up to four times a year for internal events.

  • Passion for technology and working with talented individuals.
  • Curiosity, flexibility, and good communication skills.
  • Interest in or willingness to learn about technologies such as Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, QEMU/KVM, and more.
