Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in various enterprise initiatives such as the public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are a globally distributed company with over 1100 colleagues in more than 75 countries, operating primarily in remote roles.

We are hiring a Web/UI Engineer to develop a data-rich and reliable user experience. The frontends are constructed using JS, CSS, React, and Flutter, serving as Canonical's enterprise products that interface with our users. As part of our team, you will contribute to the Vanilla Framework, which aims to enhance consistency across our products and assist open-source projects in developing accessible interfaces.

Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing well-tested and documented software in web technologies or Flutter, debugging and fixing user issues, collaborating on technical specifications, and contributing to technical documentation. Additionally, you will participate in our engineering process through code reviews and improve engineering practices.

Work Conditions:

  • Full-time position.
  • Globally remote role, requiring willingness to travel twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks.

Language Requirements:

  • Professional written and spoken English is required.

What We Are Looking For:

  • An exceptional academic track record, ideally with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a STEM field.
  • Experience and passion for typescript, React, or Flutter.
  • Experience in designing and writing high-quality web technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
