About the Job
Core42 is the UAE's national-scale enabler for cloud and generative AI, merging expertise across multiple technology disciplines into a single platform for public sector and large enterprise transformations. As a Lead Systems Engineer – Storage Infrastructure, you will engage in the design, lead implementation, and provide Level 3 expert support for extra-large scale storage infrastructure, ensuring the highest levels of performance, scalability, and reliability. You will serve as a key subject matter expert, leading a team responsible for block, object, or file storage solutions and backup services.

Responsibilities

  • Co-design, lead implementation, and manage PB-level block, object, and file storage solutions as essential components of Cloud and HPC environments, ensuring stability, performance, and compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Define and oversee the implementation roadmap for all storage solutions and services across the company.
  • Collaborate with architecture and other engineering teams on evaluating and selecting storage and backup technology components, ensuring solutions are optimized both functionally and non-functionally.
  • Lead regular capacity planning exercises to anticipate and meet the growing demands on the storage infrastructure.
  • Develop plans to enhance storage infrastructure reliability, addressing potential points of failure to ensure high availability of storage services.
  • Explore and implement performance optimization strategies for storage solutions.
  • Evaluate and integrate new storage technologies and methodologies to enhance features, performance, and efficiency.
  • Define and execute disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and protection across all platforms and environments.
  • Design and enhance observability stack in collaboration with the IaaS operations team.
  • Provide Level 3 expert support, including on-call shifts, and serve as the final tier of resolution for Level 2 support teams.
  • Lead and mentor a team of storage engineers and collaborate with other engineering teams on solution design and delivery.
  • Collaborate with security management teams to ensure systems are secure against cyber threats.
  • Write and maintain relevant documentation ensuring completeness and quality.
  • Work closely with process management and operational teams to contribute to process development, standardizing collaboration frameworks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, software engineering, or related field in technology.
  • 2+ years of experience leading a team of 3+ engineers and holding accountability for quality and timely delivery of infrastructure projects.
  • 7+ years of in-depth expertise in designing, implementing, and managing large-scale software-defined storage (SDS) solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with major storage systems vendors including HPE, Dell, NetApp, IBM, or PureStorage.
  • Strong knowledge of storage protocols for block, object, and file storage such as iSCSI, S3, NFS, FC[oE], NVME over TCP.
  • Proficient with Linux and capable of debugging storage-related issues.
  • Experience with object storage solutions like SeaweedFS, MinIO, or Dell ECS is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies and CI/CD principles.
  • Advanced programming and scripting skills in Python and/or Golang, and bash.
  • Solid understanding of backup systems, disaster recovery principles, and data protection strategies.
