About the Job
The Data Governance Manager is responsible for developing and implementing data governance frameworks to ensure data quality, security, and compliance across the organization. This role involves setting policies and standards for data management, collaborating with various departments to enforce best practices, and ensuring the proper use of data to support business objectives.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop and Implement Data Governance Strategy: Create and enforce policies and standards for data management, ensuring consistency and accuracy of data across the organization.
- Data Quality Management: Ensure data accuracy, completeness, reliability, and timeliness. Identify and resolve data quality issues through continuous monitoring and improvements.
- Data Stewardship: Establish and manage a network of data stewards responsible for maintaining high-quality data and adhering to governance protocols in different departments.
- Compliance & Security: Ensure that data handling practices meet internal governance policies as well as industry standards and regulatory compliance (GDPR, DAMA, etc.).
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with IT, legal, compliance, and business units to define and prioritize data governance initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Training & Awareness: Develop training programs to increase awareness of data governance principles among employees, promoting accountability and data literacy.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare reports on data governance activities, including metrics on data quality and compliance, and communicate them to senior management and stakeholders.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with data misuse, poor quality, or non-compliance with governance frameworks.
Technical Skillset
- Data Management Systems & Tools: Experience with data governance platforms such as Collibra, Informatica, or Talend, and proficiency in using data management tools like SQL, Power BI, or Tableau.
- Data Quality & Metadata Management: Understanding of tools and processes for data profiling, data cleansing, metadata management, and lineage tracking.
- Master Data Management (MDM): Experience with MDM solutions to ensure consistent data across different departments and systems.
- Data Privacy & Security Tools: Familiarity with tools and frameworks that support data privacy (e.g., anonymization) and security measures, such as encryption and access control.
- Data Architecture Knowledge: Understanding of data modeling, database structures (e.g., SQL, NoSQL), and modern data architectures such as cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field. A master’s degree or certifications (e.g., CDMP, DAMA) is an added advantage.
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in data management, data governance, or related fields, with 4 years in a managerial role.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience in industries with complex data environments such as finance, healthcare, or telecommunications is preferred.
- Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA) and their implications for data governance frameworks.
