The Security Engineer L1 is an entry-level subject matter expert, responsible for learning how to facilitate problem resolution and mentoring for the overall team. This role involves performing operational security tasks such as performance and availability monitoring, log monitoring, security incident detection and response, security event reporting, and content maintenance (tuning). The Security Engineer L1 is accountable for detecting and monitoring escalated threats and suspicious activity affecting the organization's technology domain, including servers, networks, appliances, and all infrastructure supporting production applications for the enterprise, as well as development environments.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a 24/7 team on rotational shifts.
- Collaborate with Platform and Content Engineering handling tunings, stakeholder requests, escalations, reporting, and training.
- Administer the organization's security tools to gather security logs from the environment.
- Manage the lifecycle of the supported security tools/technologies, including break-fix, patching, and live updates.
- Adhere to SOPs and notify stakeholders on log flow/log format issues.
- Document best practices and identify opportunities for automation that will help the incident response team.
- Perform security incident handling and response across various vectors including Endpoint Protection and Enterprise Detection and Response tools, attack analysis, malware analysis, network forensics, and computer forensics.
Knowledge and Attributes:
- Basic knowledge in the implementation and monitoring of any SIEM or security tools/technologies.
- Understanding of security architecture and experience working across different security technologies.
- Customer service-oriented with proactive thinking.
- Strong problem-solving skills and self-organized.
- Attention to detail with good analytical and logical thinking.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
- Team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
Academic Qualifications and Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Technology or a related field.
- Relevant networking certifications such as CCNA, JNCIA, ACCA, PCNSA, or CCSA preferred.
- Relevant security certifications such as AZ-500, SC-200, Security+, or CEH are advantageous.
Required Experience:
- Entry-level experience in security technologies like Firewalls, IPS, IDS, Proxy, etc.
- Technical support experience to clients.
- Experience in diagnosis and troubleshooting.
- Remote support experience in Security Technologies.
- Experience in SOC/CSIRT Operations.
- Experience handling security incidents from end to end.
- Experience in security engineering.
