As a Platform Engineer within Client Engineering at IBM, you’ll be a key player in a multi-disciplinary team composed of Architects, AI Engineers, Designers, and Business Technology Leaders. Your role will involve collaborating with clients in real-time to co-create innovative solutions that address their toughest business challenges. This position focuses on delivering unique client co-creation experiences to drive their transformation, allowing you to leverage your hybrid cloud and AI skills to demonstrate business value effectively.
You will participate in all aspects of integrated solutions, from identifying requirements to influencing technical decisions. Your Role and Responsibilities
Here’s what a typical day might look like:
- Leverage contemporary hybrid cloud skills (e.g., AI, analytics, DevOps, DevSecOps, IaC, automation, security, networking, and storage) along with deep industry expertise to meet client needs.
- Define and communicate the unique value of IBM’s technology, both technically and commercially.
- Participate in client sessions utilizing various public and hybrid cloud technologies, such as Red Hat OpenShift, IBM Cloud Paks, and Kubernetes.
- Support the solutions architecture plan and serve as a hands-on “builder” during client engagements.
- Advise on solution architecture to ensure alignment with platform best practices focused on easing the transition to deployment.
- Collaborate with deployment teams to ensure seamless transitions for our clients regarding platform assets and information.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Hands-on experience with a wide range of cloud and AI technologies.
- Practical knowledge of virtualized on-premise and cloud-based computing platforms.
- Experience in automating application and infrastructure deployment workflows.
- Proven record of participating in customer-facing technical solutions teams across various cloud architectures.
- Technical experience in a cloud-related domain such as Data/Analytics, Data Science, Security, or other cloud-native technologies.
- Understanding and practical application of Agile best practices.
- Proficiency in at least one common cloud-native programming language (Java, Python, HCL, Rust, Ansible, etc.).
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- At least 1 year in a technical operations role (e.g., site reliability or platform engineering) in hybrid-cloud and on-premise environments.
- Experience in deploying and operating solutions on AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, or Google Cloud.
- Experience as a Solution Architect or in a public cloud consulting role.
- Proven ability to develop collaborative client relationships at all levels within organizations.
- Knowledge of Well-Architected Frameworks from AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, or Google Cloud.
- Relevant technical certifications (e.g., CNCF, AWS, IBM Cloud, Azure, Google Cloud, DevOps).
- Experience working in dynamic team environments and cross-functionally with teams such as Product Management, Engineering, and Customer Success.
