Position

As a Data Center Technician (DCT) at Microsoft, you will be responsible for staging, setting up, and performing hardware deployments. You will troubleshoot and diagnose equipment, as well as decommission hardware for simple changes and refreshes following Standard Operating Procedures. This role provides an opportunity to deepen your understanding of Data Center processes and procedures while developing mentoring skills to guide peers. You will become familiar with security and data management procedures and accelerate your career growth within Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, a key player in delivering the infrastructure for Microsoft’s online services, including Azure, Office 365, and more.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures, quickly identifying causes of issues and replacing faulty components with minimal disruption.
  • Conduct post-execution quality checks to ensure grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling are set up according to safety protocols and planned Network Design Tasks (NDTs).
  • Decommission hardware for simple changes and refreshes with minimal guidance.
  • Communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate data center operations management units and specialists.
  • Assist and provide guidance to other technicians on complex tasks.
  • Complete necessary training and learn hands-on experience aligned with the role with the help of experienced technicians.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment by actively sharing information and staying apprised of the team’s progress.
  • Uphold service quality and user experience while embracing the company’s culture and values.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • Experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Ability to work shifts, including non-standard hours, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Background Check Requirements:

  • Must meet Microsoft and customer security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and biennially thereafter.

Preferred:

  • Experience in supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Applicable certifications such as CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+) and Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
