About
The AI for Good Lab is seeking machine learning professionals with strong experience in developing foundational language models (Large Language Models, Vision Language Models) to join our newly established office in Abu Dhabi. The Microsoft AI for Good Research Lab leverages data, cloud technology, and data science talent to inspire partnerships aimed at solving the world’s greatest challenges. Our lab has established itself as a creator of data-driven AI solutions and a trusted advisor working with leaders across Microsoft, academia, NGOs, and government levels. We aspire to be a top applied research and data visualization lab that drives positive change globally while serving as a blueprint for others.

As part of the AI for Good team, led by Microsoft’s Chief Data Scientist, you will contribute to projects that save lives, alleviate suffering, and restore human dignity. Your work will encompass AI development, data engineering, and collaboration with NGOs and governmental institutions. You will join world-class applied researchers dedicated to "AI for Good," while accessing Microsoft’s resources and global scale to tackle some of today’s most demanding challenges. Our research philosophy fosters knowledge sharing, allowing you to contribute to the AI for Good community through publishing papers and participating in industry events.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate in a relevant field OR equivalent experience

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in building artificial neural networks
  • 2+ peer-reviewed journal publications or conference presentations (preferably on LLMs)
  • 2 years’ experience in delivering AI projects
  • 1 year of experience with PyTorch

Responsibilities

  • Create LLMs for various uses, including specialized or under-resourced domains.
  • Identify data sources for artificial intelligence and statistical modeling.
  • Collaborate with AI research scientists, data analysts, data engineers, and stakeholders to incorporate their expertise into analytical solutions.
  • Partner with external organizations to enhance efforts in addressing food security, environmental issues, disaster resilience, and health.
  • Present the Lab’s capabilities and projects to leadership audiences, adapting content for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Advance the research agenda for AI for Good initiatives by preparing and publishing technical papers and presentations.
