talabat is seeking a Director of Engineering for the Growth tribe, an exciting opportunity to broaden our footprint and enhance the experience for our customers and partners. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for building and guiding a high-performing engineering team, which consists of over 70 engineers distributed across eight cross-functional teams.
You will collaborate closely with product, design, and data leads to identify challenges and opportunities and leverage technology solutions that will benefit both our customers and the business. As Director of Engineering, you will guide Domain Leads and their teams in scoping, validating, building, deploying, and maintaining innovative solutions.
The Growth tribe focuses on providing technologies that assist talabat’s partners in acquiring and retaining customers. This includes two domains: Monetization & Incentives (covering areas such as AdEx, Growth Marketing, Incentive Experience, Deal Targeting, Vendor Growth & Ops Portal) and Customer Retention (including talabat Pro, Activation, Rewards).
Key Responsibilities:
- Shape the engineering vision and strategy for the Growth tribe.
- Create an environment that encourages teams to speak up, be self-organizing, and thrive on continuous improvement.
- Attract, lead, and retain top talent, including engineering managers and engineers.
- Provide technology solutions to assist product engineering teams in addressing complex scenarios.
- Collaborate with product, design, and data teams to form the product vision and strategy.
- Maintain connections with technology peers from other Tribes to support cross-Tribe initiatives.
- Ensure high levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
- Implement best practices to deliver scalable and high-quality solutions across Domains and teams.
What You Need to Be Successful:
- Ability to manage multiple domains/teams and navigate complex scopes.
- Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and practices (including DDD, TDD, Pair/Mob Programming, CI/CD, Continuous Refactoring).
- Extensive experience in building distributed systems at scale.
- Proficiency in identifying and hiring exceptional talent.
- Strong leadership qualities, emphasizing empathy and personal development.
- Excellent relationship-building skills that enable continuous feedback from cross-departmental stakeholders.
- A customer-first mentality in all solutions delivered.
