Fire Lieutenant

As a Fire Lieutenant, you will serve as a crew leader of a fire department crew responsible for saving lives, providing first aid, and preserving property and mission functions during emergency events. You will utilize specialized protective gear to manage circumstances involving hazardous materials and emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Direct and participate in the work of the crew operating firefighting apparatus with specific orders from higher-level supervisors.
• Conduct practice drills and training classes, and direct the crew in fire protection inspection functions.
• Assign maintenance work for station equipment and prepare reports for supervisory review concerning fire runs and training.
• Undertake recurrent proficiency training and on-the-job training (OJT) while attending required classes and participating in the DoD Firefighter Certification Program and physical fitness programs.
• Conduct fire risk management surveys, provide fire safety training, conduct facility inspections, and prepare pre-fire plans.
• Effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, and thoroughly understand policies, rules, and regulations of the Fire Department organization.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Captain or Assistant Fire Chief.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school graduate or equivalent with two (2) years of full-time experience as a paid Firefighter; an Associate Degree or higher in Fire Science is preferred.
  • Must meet training and certification requirements outlined in DoD Manual 6055.06.
  • Certifications required from IFSAC, Pro-Board, or DoD:
    • Fire Officer I
    • Fire Instructor I
    • Fire Inspector I
    • D/O Pumper
    • D/O ARFF
    • D/O MWS
    • D/O Aerial (Preferred)
    • Hazardous Material Incident Commander (Preferred)
    • HazMat Technician (Preferred)
    • Aircraft Rescue Firefighter (ARFF)
    • Emergency Medical Responder or equivalent with current CPR card (EMT Preferred).
• Skills:
  • Demonstrate firefighter knowledge and skills in a professional manner.
  • Effectively work with multinational staff and military officials, exercising professional discretion and good judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal English; proficiency in MS-Word, MS-Excel, and MS-Outlook.
• Supervisory/Budget Responsibilities:
  • Manage a large department with multiple fire stations; assist in training firefighters and manage fire apparatus and facility improvement planning.
• Material & Equipment Directly Used:
  • Motorized firefighting apparatus, tools, ladders, equipment, personal computer, and office equipment.
• Working Environment:
  • General operational and office environment in Kuwait, with potential for uncommon duty hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Exposure to extreme heat and dusty conditions; must meet physical fitness requirements and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Physical Activities:
  • Must be in good physical condition to meet fitness requirements for duty; ability to hoist, lift, and carry 100 pounds or more.
