Head of Finance

About the role
We are hiring a Head of Finance to run the finance function at the company. Currently, finance operations sit with the COO/CFO and financial controller, and we are looking for someone to take ownership of various critical functions including month-end closing, audits, budgeting, tax, treasury operations, fund NAV, payments, and payroll. While the CFO will set policy and provide sign-off, you will be responsible for executing all other financial operations.

As part of a small team, you will have one accountant reporting to you, with the opportunity to hire additional staff as we grow. You should be comfortable handling many tasks independently while coordinating with legal, compliance, operations, and product teams across multiple time zones.

What you'll do

• Run month-end processes for all entities, including management accounts preparation within 15 business days and quarterly reporting within 45 days.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations, validating wallets, exchange, and custody balances against the ledger.
• Oversee revenue recognition for protocol fees, vault fees, card interchange, and treasury income.
• Lead statutory audits and manage the annual budget as well as monthly budget vs. actuals, documenting and defending all material assumptions.
• Conduct cash forecasting and monitor daily liquidity across fiat, stablecoins, and crypto.
• Perform weekly portfolio reviews and rebalance according to targets established by the CFO, as well as manage fund transfers for payroll and payments.
• Establish intercompany agreements and develop a transfer pricing model in collaboration with advisers.
• Handle tax and regulatory finance filings in Cayman, Brazil, the US, Canada, and UAE (including economic substance, US information returns, and CRA).
• Execute weekly payment runs for vendors, payroll, contractors in multiple countries, token vesting, and expense management.
• Maintain card inventory and cost tracking in collaboration with operations.
• Own finance systems, including QuickBooks, crypto sub-ledger, accounts payable tools, payroll, and cap table management, and work to reduce manual reconciliations.
• Collaborate with Compliance, Ecosystem, and Product teams on fee models and new launches, and assist HR with compensation budgets, relocations, and payroll.

What we're looking for

• A qualified accountant (CA, CPA, ACCA) with a preference for candidates with a Big 4 audit background.
• At least 8 years of post-qualification experience, with a minimum of 4 years spent in-house at a crypto, fintech, or asset management firm.
• Experience in leading a finance function, with previous roles as controller or head of finance across multiple entities and currencies.
• Proven track record of managing audits from start to finish.
• Hands-on experience with intercompany agreements and transfer pricing.
• Comfortable working in the crypto space, including wallet reconciliations, token accounting, staking rewards, and NAV calculations for crypto funds.
• Highly organized and direct, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing problems early.
• Eligible to work in Cayman; relocation support is available.

Nice to have

• Experience with Cayman funds, including CIMA registration, investment manager entities, and working with fund administrators.
• Familiarity with VASP, payment systems, card programs, and interchange practices.
• Knowledge of US and Canadian tax regulations.
• Experience with multi-country payroll systems and token compensation structures.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, crypto sub-ledgers, and AP automation tools.
