About the Role
The estimator coordinates all estimating activities on assigned project(s). A strong working knowledge of home office services, field indirect, and craft labor is essential. The role requires a diversified experience and familiarity with typical project controls software, such as DMCS (Document and Material Control System), as well as a clear understanding of engineering drawings and specifications.
The estimator will develop estimating procedures for the Alliance, executing and supervising estimates for modifications and additions to clients' facilities, covering all phases of execution from front-end engineering through to closeout. During the pre-engineering phase, the estimator will compare estimates of alternative solutions and provide inputs for the selection of the adopted option.

Specific Accountabilities
- Prepares material takeoffs for complex projects, drawings, and plans, ensuring mathematical and technical accuracy.
- Develops procedures for preparing estimates for modifications and additions to both onshore and offshore facilities.
- Prepares and supervises estimates in accordance with approved procedures for all work phases, ensuring appropriate levels of accuracy.
- Incorporates engineering estimates from lead/project engineers into overall estimates for all phases of the work.
- Prepares rationale statements to support estimates, identifying weaknesses and areas of risk.
- Validates and verifies estimates against high-level norms and previous estimates, comparing outcome costs and vendor prices.
- Continuously monitors estimating performance as part of the KPIs for the contract and makes recommendations for process improvement based on KPI data.
- Assists in training, developing, and maintaining a staff of estimators to support departmental and project needs.
- Assigns estimating personnel to projects, supervising activities and reviewing work for accuracy.
- Reviews contractual documents and modifications to determine the scope of work and changes.
- Assists project management in preparing schedules for estimate preparation, review, and publication.
- Develops forms, formats, and procedures to enhance the quality of work produced in the department.
- Interfaces directly with clients.
- Leads a small estimating organization of 1 to 4 employees qualified in capital cost estimating.
- Participates in the company’s Quality Improvement Team.
- Accumulates, evaluates, and documents historical cost data and construction procedures to maintain current estimating standards and databases.
- Completes other responsibilities associated with this position as appropriate.
Mandatory Requirements
- BA/BS degree or Diploma in Science, Finance, or Accounting, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree in the oil and gas sector.
- A minimum of 10 years of total post-graduation experience.
- At least 5 years of post-graduation experience in the oil & gas/petrochemical industry.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role.
- At least 5 years' hands-on experience in cost estimation.
