The role is centered on providing comprehensive commercial and legal advice on various corporate, shipping, commercial, compliance, financial, and regulatory matters. The position plays a critical role in eliminating or mitigating risks associated with the operations of the organization and its subsidiaries and joint ventures globally. The incumbent will assist the General Counsel in delivering overall support to the Legal department.

Key Accountabilities
Legal Advice:
- Provide legal support to management regarding corporate, shipping, and commercial matters, as well as compliance, financial, and regulatory issues.
- Assist in structuring, drafting, and negotiating new ventures tied to the organization’s business expansion.
- Provide ongoing legal support to the Commercial and Fleet Departments on LNG and LPG charter party terms, management agreements, contracts, and other agreements.
- Advise the Administration and HR departments on corporate and employment matters.
- Manage the delivery process of new vessels, including ship registration and overall handling related to vessel purchases and charters to third parties.
Contract Management:
- Handle disputes arising from international transactions and shipping contracts.
- Draft and negotiate contracts for the construction of offshore and port vessels and shipbuilding/conversion contracts for subsidiaries.
- Support other departments in the review, drafting, and negotiation of various contracts.
Generic Accountabilities:
- Provide board secretarial services for the organization and its subsidiaries and joint ventures.
- Liaise with external financing counsels on financing, refinancing, and mortgage matters.
- Manage litigation involving the organization, its subsidiaries, and joint ventures by coordinating with external legal counsels.
Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ):
- Adhere to all relevant SHEQ policies and procedures to ensure a safe, secure, and environmentally responsible service.
Systems and Processes:
- Participate in the development of the Legal function’s policies and procedures, ensuring their effective implementation to achieve set targets aligned with the organization’s strategy.
Others:
- Assist the General Counsel with the preparation and monitoring of the Legal function’s budget, ensuring optimal utilization of resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.
Qualifications, Experience, and Job Skills
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in law
- Master’s degree in maritime law or specialized certifications
- Professional Legal Qualification
Experience:
- 10-15 years of relevant experience, with at least 5-8 years in a similar position within the shipping industry
- Experience with an international shipping law firm
Job Specific Skills:
- Proficiency in Commercial and Shipping Law
- Experience in Corporate law
- Strong commercial and negotiation skills
- Excellent communication skills
