Wildlife Control Supervisor

About the role:
Contribute with the team to meet the wildlife hazard management plan and objectives at Hamad International Airport encompassing wildlife hazard planning and hazard assessment, wildlife assessment and control. Implementation of training programmes on wildlife hazard management for airport safety staff, ensuring that HIA is meeting its certification requirements with regard to compliance with rules and regulations in relation to wildlife hazard management.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol the airside, monitor wildlife activity, report and record all wildlife occurrences and incidents and produce wildlife hotspot maps. Come up with recommendations to the line manager such as grass cutting and vegetation management in order to minimize wildlife activities.
• Follow the Line Manager's guidance to set up and reposition bird control equipment on the airfield, monitor the serviceability and maintenance of wildlife control equipment, ensuring it is in operational condition and/or adjusting the equipment settings whenever necessary.
• Collect bird strike carcasses (samples) from the airfield and identify species. Tag and store in freezer, in order to allow follow-up wildlife analysis.
• Monitor the population of insects/food sources or attractants for birds and wildlife, by conducting site inspections, recording observations and reporting in order to timely identify airside hazards and notify the Lead Wildlife Hazard Officer.
• Liaise with ATC on wildlife hazards and report to them the actual status of Bird Watch conditions such as the presence and amount of birds, ensuring that ATC can communicate effectively with pilots. Attend to any requests by ATC to keep the runway clear from any wildlife hazards.
• Monitor the population of birds/wildlife and implement the measures identified in the Wildlife Hazard Manual to decrease the wildlife population, using the approved methods as per SOP to follow the wildlife mitigation strategy.
• Inform the Line Manager of any new or unusual wildlife presence or activity, or any suspicious attractants to wildlife. Investigate and produce incident reports with accurate data for further analysis following wildlife hazard events and bird strikes.
• Provide wildlife awareness training for airside users, ensuring that all concerned staff are fully aware of wildlife hazards.
• Deploy and control wildlife tools in the airfield, such as traps/cages where required, and monitor them if anything is captured. Continuously monitor the effectiveness of deterrent infrastructure modifications such as nettings, spikes, perimeter fences, etc.
• Follow QCAR (Qatar Civil Aviation Regulations) version 006 requirements and the Wildlife Hazard Management Plan to ensure that HIA meets its aerodrome certification obligations in respect of wildlife hazard management.
• Carry out any other duties assigned by the direct manager.

About you:

• High School Qualification/Vocational Qualification/Diploma or equivalent with 3 years of job-related experience.
• Bachelor of Zoology, Ornithology, Biology, Environmental Science with a minimum of 2 years of job-related experience.
• Training certification courses in Aerodrome Safety Management, Wildlife Hazard, and other ICAO / ACI / Safety certifications are an advantage.
